Our research utilizes large datasets (i.e., epidemiological & multi-site data), active collaboration with other labs within and outside of Colorado State University, and advanced methodology and statistical approaches.

The overall goal of the Prince Lab is to develop effective prevention and treatment approaches for substance use disorders. In pursuit of this goal, we employ advanced statistical and quantitative methods to investigate the nuance of substance use behaviors and mechanisms driving substance use behavior change.

Furthermore, we aim to develop individualized and culturally tailored interventions encompassing a range of approaches, including but not limited to web-based interventions, adaptive ecological momentary interventions and personalized brief interventions.

Current broad topics of interest in the lab include the following:

  • Mechanisms of behavior change
  • Prevention and intervention development for SUDs
  • Harm reduction
  • Use of advanced statistical methods (i.e., Mixture Modeling, Multilevel Structural Equational Modeling)
  • Etiology and epidemiology of substance use for Indigenous youth living on or near reservations.
