Psychology of Women (PSY 327)

This course introduces students to issues and debates in the psychology of girls and women.
It focuses on theories and research on the female experience across intersectionalities, for example, by culture, in the United States and globally. National, international, and transnational issues and perspectives are considered. Students are encouraged to think critically about theories and research.
PSY 437: Psychology of Gender

This course focuses on gender in cultural and historical contexts and across intersectionalities.
The goals of this course are: (1) to promote critical thinking about sex and gender in scholarly work and in everyday life; and (2) to learn about questions, theories, research, and debates about women, men, and gender, across intersectionalities, and in different historical and cultural contexts.
To support critical thinking, this class includes ideas, questions, and research evidence on gender representing a diversity of perspectives. In other words, this is not a class that delivers the familiar. Students are encouraged to approach the different ideas, questions and research evidence with curiosity, including curiosity about their reactions; and to practice taking a cultural and historical perspective on women, men, and gender.
In this class we value and honor that we come from a wide variety of backgrounds and that we have a diversity of experiences; and that therefore we bring to class a diversity of sensibilities and questions about women, men and gender. In this class we seek to evaluate all ideas based on scientific evidence and quality of argumentation.
